Which Airline to Choose Flying to Iceland

2017 | 03 | 29

“What’s the best way to get to Iceland?” – We get this question a lot and there is no simple answer to it. Unless you fancy to take a ferry from Europe, which takes a few days, one thing is clear: You will need to fly to get here. Today, there are a lot of different airlines flying to and from Keflavík, Iceland’s international airport, so we understand that the choice can be overwhelming. Here are some tips to help you choose the right airline to travel to Iceland:

Location

Most foreign airlines have a very limited number of cities they fly to Iceland from. For example EasyJet flies mostly from the UK, SAS from Scandinavia and Delta from the USA and Wizzair from East Europe. If you are lucky, your closest airport is served by more than one airline flying to Iceland. Icelandair and WOWair have by far the biggest route networks with many destinations in Europe and North America. Check out the route maps here  and here  to see if they fly to your airport.

Price

If you are lucky enough to be able to choose between multiple airlines to come to Iceland, compare the price. Obviously, the prices will vary a lot between seasons, but even for one specific date, you can find largely different prices with two different airlines. You don’t want to pay more than necessary for the flight to this expensive country!

Flight features

As much as you want to go for the cheapest flight, make sure to compare what you actually get for your money. Those 80 dollars that you saved on the ticket itself don’t help you much once you realize that you have to pay extra for luggage, drinks on board and that you don’t have an in-flight entertainment system (WOWair). Although that is probably no problem on a short flight from the UK for example, flying from the west coast of the United States you might want to have some more comfort (Icelandair). It’s all about your priorities!

Whichever airline you choose, we look forward to welcoming you!
